2025-07-25

James Chau, President of the China-United States Exchange Foundation (CUSEF), recently traveled to Dhaka, Bangladesh, where he met with Muhammad Yunus, Chief Advisor of the Interim Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh. Mr. Chau thanked Professor Yunus for delivering the Head of Government Address at the U.S.-China Hong Kong Forum, CUSEF’s annual flagship event, in November 2024.

Professor Yunus, one of only seven individuals in history to receive the Nobel Peace Prize, the Presidential Medal of Freedom, and the Congressional Gold Medal, has long been regarded as a global visionary in the fight against poverty, having pioneered the concepts of microcredit and micro finance. As leader of Bangladesh, he recently visited China where he met with President Xi Jinping.

During Mr. Chau’s time in Dhaka, he also spoke at the 15th edition of Social Business Day, an event convened by the Yunus Centre and Grameen Group. This year’s theme, Social Business is the Most Efficient Path to Ensure Healthcare for All, brought together global health experts, policymakers, young entrepreneurs, and changemakers from over 37 countries to advance inclusive, sustainable health systems.

James has interviewed Professor Yunus on numerous occasions over the years, and has supported many of his initiatives focused on climate action, health equity, and youth. CUSEF continues to champion these values in efforts to build a more inclusive and just world.
